Is BJJ good for self-defense?

Brazilian jiu jitsu is unique to other martial arts solely because its formation was derived off the "smaller vs larger opponent" principle. In BJJ, you will learn how to take someone to the ground, establish positive control, attack extremities, maintain control without needing to cause damage but having the option if absolutely necessary. These are all key components to self defense without striking. We are proud to be the go to martial art for forces like Police Officers because the translation from mats to job is so strong and useful!
